Description

Prairie Splendor Coneflower

General Information

Prairie Splendor Coneflower is a great perennial flower to have in different areas of your landscape.  It grows in a typically compact fashion, with flowers on stems above the foliage.  The leaves have an oval shape, and keep a nice dark green color all through the growing season.  The flowers are large in size, growing 4 to 5 inches in diameter.  The petals are narrow and rosy-purple in color.  The center cone has an orangish-brown color.  These flowers bloom from late spring through the summer, with sporadic fall rebloom.  If the flowers are left standing over the winter, birds will visit the cones for the seeds inside!

Additional Information

Echinacea purpurea ‘Prairie Splendor’ grows to a height of 18 to 24 inches, with a similar overall spread.  It is recommended for USDA planting zones 3 to 8.  Prairie Splendor tends to do best in full sunlight.  It usually does best in average moisture in well drained soils.  It has a good deal of drought tolerance once established.
