Description

 Red (Creeping) Phlox

General Information

The Creeping Red Phlox forms a mound of foliage covered with candy red blossoms in mid to late spring. It will self-seed in optimum conditions. A mat of foliage is formed by this vigorous, spreading plant making it an excellent, hardy ground cover.  Creeping Red Phlox is ideal for rock gardens, topping retaining walls, and edging pathways. Use on banks and slopes to help control erosion.

Additional Information

Phlox subulata grows best in Full Sun. It will grow 4-6″ tall with a spread of 12-18″. Plant in zones 3 to 8. Deer resistant. Tolerates air pollution. Will tolerate some drought, but appreciates light shade in southern heat. Attracts butterflies. Rabbits may be pests.

Care & Shipping Notes

Plant in average, well drained soil. Prefers soil that is humusy. Excellent for sandy, rocky soil.  Good mildew resistance. Be sure to provide good drainage to keep the phlox healthy and avoid foliar nematodes. In hot, dry conditions spider mites may be pests.  Cut back foliage to promote denser growth and increased flower production.
