Description

Northwind Switchgrass

General Information

Northwind Switchgrass is an erect columnar grass cultivar that will sport yellow flower panicles late summer on top of it’s 4-6′ olive/bluish green foliage.   Flower panicles turn tan colored in the fall continuing into the winter.   Foliage also changes to a beige color providing winter interest.

Additional Information

Panicum virgatum ‘Northwind’ grows best in Full Sun to Part Shade.  If it receives too much shade it will lose its erect columnar habit and will grow more open, possibly falling over.  It will reach a mature height of 4 to 6 feet and width of 2 to 5 feet.   Plant in zones 5 to 9.  Drought, air pollution, and black walnut tolerant.
