Description

Lapins Cherry

General Information

Lapins Cherry is a great cherry tree that would do well in your home orchard.  It has uses for both ornamental and fruit bearing purposes.  In the springtime, the tree is covered in pure white blooms providing quite the spring spectacle.  Flowers are followed by large, split-resistant fruit.  The cherries are similar to Bing, with firm, sweet, juicy fruits.  The cherries are deep red in color, with lighter red flesh maturing in July.  The foliage is a nice green color through spring and summer, and can develop some yellow-orange fall color. Lapins is self fertile, but can benefit from having a nearby pollinating partner such as Bing or North Star.

Additional Information

Prunus avium ‘Lapins’ grows to a height of 12 to 20 feet, with a spread of 10 to 15 feet.  It is recommended for climate zones 5 to 9.  It does best in full sunlight.  Lapins will do its best in well drained soils with moderate amounts of moisture.  Can develop good drought tolerance once established.
