Kiwi Hardy Issai
General Information
Issai Hardy Kiwi is a fast growing deciduous vine. This vine can grow up to 25 feet, so it will need support (trellis, arbor, fence or wall) of some variety to grow on. Large, dark green leaves, oval to elliptical in shape. Greenish-white flowers in the late springtime. These flowers produce small, grape-sized, smooth skinned, green colored fruits. These fruits are sweeter than traditional larger kiwis and can be eaten skin and all. These plants do not need a pollinator partner to produce fruit. They will produce a larger crop if a male pollinator of the species is nearby.
Additional Information
Actinidia arguta ‘Issai’ grows to a height of 15 to 25 feet, with a varied spread. It is recommended for climate zones 4 to 8. It tends to grow best in full sun. Issai Hardy Kiwi tends to do best in well drained soils with average amounts of moisture. It is not known to have any disease or insect issues.
