Joe Pye Weed- Native
Joe Pye Weed is a native perennial plant. It is native to most of the east and central United States. It is great in a variety of landscapes and in native planting settings. It grows as an upright plant, growing quite tall, at up to 7 feet. The leaves are narrow, long and oval shape, fairly course in overall texture. They are deep to dark green in color. The individual flowers are small, growing in large, rounded clusters. The flowers are pinkish-purple in color, with a vanilla-like aroma. They are very attractive to butterflies and a range of other pollinators.
Eutrochium purpureum grows to a height of 5 to 7 feet, with a spread of 2 to 4 feet. It is recommended for USDA climate zones 4 to 9. Joe Pye Weed can be grown in full to partial sunlight. It does well with moderate amounts of moisture in a variety of soil conditions. Grows well in wetter areas. It is not known to have any particular disease issues.
