Ivory Silk Lilac

General Information

The Ivory Silk Lilac is a great tree that could work well in many different areas of your landscape.  This lilac is in tree form, creating a different look to a well known plant.  The tree is best known for its flowers, but it has other points of interest as well.  The tree has great cold resistance, being able to withstand temperatures up to 30 below zero.  The tree grows into a spreading, round canopy.  The leaves are ovate in shape and 5 inches long.  The leaves are a nice dark green color, creating a pleasing display of foliage after all the flowers are gone.  This lilac blooms later than most, from May into June.  The flowers bloom in 12 inch panicles.  The pure white flowers bloom in profusion all over this tree, creating a wonderful late spring display.  Adding to the interest for this tree is the reddish-brown bark that really stands out in the colder months.

Additional Information

Syringa reticulata ‘Ivory Silk’ grows to a height of 20 to 25 feet, with a spread of 15 to 20 feet.  This tree is recommended for climate zones 3 to 7.  It grows best in full sunlight, but can tolerate light shade.  Ivory Silk grows best in rich, moist soils, but can tolerate somewhat lesser conditions.  The tree does best when given good air circulation.  It has good resistance to most all insects and diseases.
