Hot Rod Switchgrass
General Information
Hot Rod Switchgrass is an ornamental grass plant. It is of moderate size, growing to four feet tall. This grass grows in a dense, upright overall growth habit. The size and ornamental appeal make it ideal for a variety of landscaping areas. The leaves are grass-like and narrow in form. They are a nice blue-green color through the spring and early summer months. It turns a very attractive burgundy late summer into the fall. Open, airy flower heads in the late summer time. The reddish-purple flowers mature into tan colored seeds in the fall.
Additional Information
Panicum virgatum ‘Hot Rod’ reaches a height of 3 to 4 feet, with a spread of 18 to 24 inches. It is recommended for USDA climate zones 4 to 9. Hot Rod Switchgrass tends to do best in full sunlight. It does well with average amounts of moisture in well drained soils.
