Description

Hicks Yew

General Information

Hicks Yew is an evergreen shrub.  It can grow to be quite tall, at upwards of 12 feet in height.  Like most yews, it does grow somewhat slowly, so it may take a while a reach that height.  It grows in a narrow, and very upright overall fashion.  The Hicks Yew is great as a hedge or for other landscaping uses.  The needles grow densely, and are typically soft to the touch.  They are dark green in color, with a nice glossy appearance.  There can be ornamental red berries on the shrub, they stand out well against the dark foliage.

Additional Information

Taxus x media ‘Hicksii’ grows to a height of 10 to 12 feet, with a spread of 3 to 4 feet.  It is recommended for USDA climate zones 4 to 7.  Hicks Yew can do well in full to partial sunlight conditions.  It does well with average amounts of moisture in well drained soils.
