Description

Heritage Oak

General Information

The Heritage Oak is a beautiful tree that could fit well in different areas.  This is a large tree, up to 80 feet tall and quite wide as well, so this tree needs to be sited well.  One of the benefits of this hybrid is that it is faster growing than most oaks.  The tree grows in an upright, pyramidal fashion in its youth, before becoming more oval in shape as the tree matures.  The foliage grows quite thickly, making this a tree the birds will love for shelter, as well as the acorns.  The leaves are broadly serrated and oval in shape.  The leaves are thick, with a glossy appearance.  The thickness of the leaves make them quite resistant to wind tearing.  The leaves are dark green in the growing season and yellow-brown in the autumn.

Additional Information

Quercus x macdanielii ‘Clemons’ grows to a height of 60 to 80 feet, with a spread of 40 to 50 feet.  It is recommended for climate zones 4 to 8.  It likes to grow in full sunlight.  Heritage grows best in well drained soils with moderate amounts of moisture.  It seems to have good resistance to diseases.
