General Information
Heritage River Birch features distinctive, exfoliating bark that sets it apart from other trees. The Heritage River Birch is a fast growing, medium sized tree. It may grow as a single trunk or a multi-stemmed tree. The single trunk generally produces a more rounded habit, whereas the multi-stemmed form has a more irregular shaped crown. The leaves are diamond shaped, leathery and dark green. It forms a graceful tree that is excellent for lawns and yards. Insignificant flowers bloom in early spring. Good yellow, fall color. A great tree for campuses, parks or commercial properties. It can be grown in wet soils and along ponds or streams.
Additional Information
Betula nigra ‘Cully’ grows best in Full to Part Sun. It will grow 30-40′ tall with a spread of 15-20′. Plant in zones 4 to 9. Deer tolerant. Heat and drought tolerant. Tolerates air pollution.
Care & Shipping Notes
Easy to grow in average, well drained soil. Will tolerate a variety of soil types and conditions, including clay. Good resistance to the bronze birch borer and leaf spot. May be susceptible to aphids and leaf miners. Iron chlorosis may be a problem in high PH soils. Do not prune in spring when the sap is running.
