Ghost Fern is a great plant for the shady areas of your landscape. Perfect for any shaded or woodland garden. It grows in an upright manner with a spreading clump of ornamental fronds. The individual leaflets are long and narrow, forming a larger frond. The center stem of the frond has dark maroon color. The leaves are greyish-green in color, with a silvery overtone. They tend to lose the silvery appearance as the warmer temperatures set in.
Athyrium ‘Ghost’ grows to a height of 24 to 30 inches, with a spread of 18 to 24 inches. It is recommended for USDA climate zones 4 to 8. It does best in full to partial shade. The Ghost fern does well in rich, well drained soils with average to moderate amounts of moisture. If soils are allowed to dry out in warmer months, the leaves can decline a good bit. It is not known to have any serious disease or insect issues.
