Description

Dwarf Fireball Bee Balm

General Information

Dwarf Fireball Bee Balm is a great plant that could be used in many different areas of your landscape. This is a smaller size plant, growing 20 inches high and 24 wide.  This gives the plant enough size to be a focal point, but small enough to fit in any area.  It works well in borders, beds, containers and works to great effect in a mass planting.  This plant is a favorite of humming birds, butterflies and bees, thus creating a wonderful wildlife show with a massed group of these plants.  The leaves are smaller in size, with an rounded shape, tapering to a point at the end with serrated edges.  The leaves have a bright green color, with a glossy appearance and a ruffled texture.  The flowers are smaller in size, with narrow petals.  They are scarlet red, growing in profusion all over the plant in the summer time.

Additional Information

Monarda ‘Fireball’ grows to a height of 18  to 20 inches high and has a width of 18 to 24 inches.  It is recommended for climate zones 4 to 9.  It can grow in full sun to partial shade.  Fireball grows best in well drained soils, with average, but consistent amounts of moisture.  This plant is said to be much more resistant to powdery mildew than older varieties of bee balm.
