Double Play Red Spirea

General Information

Double Play Red Spirea is a great plant that could fit well in different areas of your landscape.  It grows as a dense, rounded mound of foliage. The foliage is attractive, providing interest all season long.  New growth emerges tinted dark burgundy in spring, then transition to a dark green color.  Large clusters of flowers appear in the late springtime.  The individual flowers are small, with a beautiful pinkish-red color.  These flowers are attractive to butterflies, bees and hummingbirds.

Additional Information

Spiraea japonica ‘SMNSJMFR’ grows to a height of 2 to 3 feet, with a similar spread.  It is recommended for climate zones 3 to 8.  It can grow in full to partial sunlight.  Double Play Red does best in well drained soils, with moderate amounts of moisture.  Best trimmed after flowering has ended.
