General Information
Cortland Apple is perfect for your home orchard! It has great ornamental quality to go along with great fruit production. It is an older variety, originating in upstate New York in the late 1800’s. The tree has abundant clusters of white flowers in the mid-spring time. They are medium sized apples, maturing to deep red, with green overtones. The fruit is pure white, with a sweet and tangy taste. They are perfect for cooking or fresh eating. Cortland apples tend to ripen by mid September. It needs a pollinating partner, working best with Candy Crisp or Honeycrisp.
Additional Information
Malus ‘Cortland’ grows to a height of 15 to 20 feet, with a similar spread. It is recommended for USDA planting zones 4 to 7. It does best in full sunlight. Cortland does well with average amounts of moisture in well drained soils. It has been shown to have good cold hardiness.
