General Information

‘The Common Purple Lilac is an old time favorite you may remember from your childhood. The wonderfully fragrant, purple flowers bloom in spring. This popular variety will provide beautiful spring color to your yard and landscape. The heart shaped leaves are deep green, providing season long color. Use the flowering stems in cut flower arrangements. Beautiful addition to your yard or landscape.  Plant in mass for a wonderful spring border.

Additional Information

Syringa vulgaris grows best in Full Sun. It will grow 12-15′ tall with a spread of 8-12′. Plant in zones 2 to 7. Attracts butterflies and hummingbirds. Cold hardy.

Care & Shipping Notes

Easy to grow in average, well drained soil. Will tolerate a wide variety of soil types. No serious insect or disease problems. Trim and shape after the spring bloom.  At this time also prune out any dead canes to encourage growth of new canes.  Do not trim after July 4 so the next season’s buds aren’t lost.  Fertilize in fall and spring with a Tree & Shrub Fertilizer.
