Castle Keep Holly
General Information
Castle Keep Holly is an evergreen shrub. This holly is smaller than many others at 5 feet tall. It is a great plant for a variety of landscaping areas. The foliage is very attractive year round. It is oval in shape, glossy in appearance and leathery in texture. The leaves are deep green in color. Many holly plants are either male or female. Castle Keep is a female plant. Small flowers in the spring are followed by berries that mature to bright red in the fall. It does require another male blue holly for the berries to develop, such as the Castle Wall holly.
Additional Information
Ilex x meserveae ‘SMNIFA’ grows 3 to 5 feet tall, with a spread of 3 to 4 feet. It is recommended for USDA climate zones 5 to 7. Castle Keep can grow in full to partial sunlight. It does well with average amounts of moisture in well drained soils.
