Description
Cardinal Flower – Native
General Information
The foliage of the Cardinal Flower features strong, upright stems with narrow lance like leaves. Terminal spikes of beautiful, scarlet red blooms rise above it. The bright red tubular flowers are two lipped. They are highly attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds. The flower spikes bloom for several weeks and make wonderful cut flowers. This native Missouri perennial is grown for its vibrant red flowers that bloom in late Summer, and its ability to thrive in moist, shady locations. This perennial would be an excellent plant along streams, swamps and low, wooded areas.
