Description

Candy Corn Spirea

General Information

Candy Corn Spirea is a small deciduous shrub, growing up to 2 feet tall.  This highly ornamental shrub grows in an overall rounded fashion.  The small size and ornamental qualities make this spirea perfect for a variety of landscaping areas.  Large clusters of pinkish-purple flowers, blooming in the late spring time.  The leaves emerge bright red in color, maturing to yellow to light green.  As the growing season continues, new leaves emerge bright orange.  Very attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds!

Additional Information

Spiraea japonica ‘NCSX1’ grows to a height of 18 to 24 inches, with a spread of 18 to 30 inches.  It is recommended for USDA climate zones 4 to 7.  It can grow in full to partial sunlight.  Candy Corn Spirea does well with average amounts of moisture in well drained soils.  Said to develop good drought tolerance over time.
