Blue Chip Juniper

General Information

Blue Chip Juniper is popular as a ground cover for the landscape. Its silvery blue foliage provides interest, and often takes on purple tones in winter. Berry-like seed cones are dark blue, but are often absent in cultivated plants. It makes an attractive addition to a rock garden or along a pond. Great as a sprawling specimen, border or foundation planting. Can be used as a ground cover for rock gardens or planted along a retaining wall or curb. Plant on slopes to help control erosion.

Juniperus horizontalis ‘Blue Chip’ grows best in Full Sun. It will grow 9-12″ tall with a spread of 3-5′. Plant in zones 3 to 8. Tolerates air pollution. Deer resistant. Attracts birds. Drought tolerant once established. Tolerates shallow, rocky soil. Very tolerant of snow and frost in cold regions. Adapts well to fluctuating desert temperatures.
