Black Tulip Magnolia
Black Tulip Magnolia is a delightful ornamental tree that will look great in different areas of your landscape. It is a smaller sized tree growing to 15 feet or so in height. At its smaller size, it is great as a focal point or accent tree. The flowers emerge in the early spring, before any foliage appears on the tree. As the name would suggest, the flowers are reminiscent of tulips, fully opening to 6 inches in width. The flowers are a beautiful burgundy-purple in color. The leaves are a nice medium green color for the rest of the growing season.
Magnolia x soulangiana ‘Jurmag1’ grows to a height of 15 to 20 feet in height, with a width of 6 to 10 feet. It is recommended for USDA climate zones 5 to 9. It tends to grow and flower best in full sunlight. Black Tulip grows best in well drained soils with at least average amounts of moisture.
