Black Hills Spruce

General Information

Black Hills Spruce is a large, very dense variety of white spruce that is native to the Black Hills and is the South Dakota state tree.  It has bright green to bluish green needles.  Good tolerance to heat and drought.  This spruce make an excellent yard/ornamental tree planted singly or in a group as a windbreak.

Additional Information

Picea glauca var. densata prefers full sun. It will reach a mature height of 30-60 feet and width of 15-25 feet in a conical shape.  Plant in zones 2 to 6.  Nesting area for birds.  Heat tolerant.
