Birch Royal Frost
The Royal Frost Birch is a hybrid between Betula platyphylla x B. pendula purpurea ‘Crimson Frost’ and Betula platyphylla var. japonica ‘Whitespire’. Royal Frost is a wonderful combination of its parent species. It grows in pyramidal form. Its attractive white bark has cinnamon brown accents. The leaves emerge purple-bronze and are accented in spring and summer with purple veining. The leaves retain their color well all summer long. In fall, the leaves turn to yellow, orange or red. In spring, insignificant catkins appear. Great tree for filtered shade. This ornamental tree is excellent for a specimen tree or for a grouping.
Betula’ Penci-2′ grows best in Part Sun. It will grow 35-40′ tall with a spread of 20-25′. Plant in zones 3 to 8. Attracts birds. Deer resistant.
