Description

Berry Heavy Winterberry

General Information

Berry Heavy Winterberry is a deciduous shrub.  It is larger in size, growing to 8 feet tall.  It grows in an overall upright and rounded fashion.  The winterberry provides a good deal of visual appeal, especially in the fall and winter months.  Clusters of flowers appear mid to late spring.  Berries form following this.  They mature to bright red late fall, persisting in the winter.  The berries are quite abundant on the branches.  In the winter, birds are attracted to the berries.  Berry Heavy will need to be pollinated by a male winterberry, such as Jim Dandy or Mr. Poppins.

Additional Information

Ilex verticillata ‘Spravy’  grows to a height of 6 to 8 feet, with a similar spread.  It is recommended for USDA climate zones 3 to 9.  Berry Heavy can grow well in full to partial sunlight.  It does well with average amounts of moisture in well drained soils.
