Baldcypress
General Information
Baldcypress is a larger sized deciduous tree. It is native to a large swath of the coastal southeastern United States. It tends to have a pyramidal growth habit. The foliage is quite fine and feathery, with the appearance of soft needles. During the growing season, the leaves are yellowish-green to soft green in color. In the fall, they are orange to reddish-brown in color. Round seed cones appear in the spring, maturing to brown in the fall.
Additional Information
Taxodium distichum grows to a height of 50 to 70 feet, with a spread of 20 to 40 feet. It is recommended for USDA climate zones 4 to 9. It does best in full sunlight. Baldcypress does well with moderate amounts of moisture in well drained soils. It has proven to be very adaptable to a variety of soil and moisture conditions. It is not known to have any serious disease or insect issues.
