General Information
Atlas Asparagus is a delightful perennial plant that will produce a great crop for many years. This is the most widely available fresh or farmers market variety of asparagus. The plants are very prolific, creating a great harvest of asparagus for 15 years or more. They do tend to need a couple of years to establish before in can be harvested. The spears have a medium green color. They have a great taste, perfect for fresh eating, salads, vegetable trays or a variety of cooking uses. The asparagus can be harvested for for 6 weeks or more, typically in April and May. They are best when harvested at 5 to 7 inches.

Asparagus officinalis ‘Atlas’ is harvested at a height of 5 to 7 inches, with post harvest fern growing to 4 feet tall. It grows best in USDA planting zones 4 to 8. It grows best in well drained, fertile soils with average amounts of moisture. It can adapt to a variety of conditions. Atlas likes to grow in full sunlight. It is said to have good resistance to a variety of diseases common to asparagus.
