Hydrangea White Diamonds is our Plant of the Week for this week. Here, during the hottest part of summer, it can be difficult to find anything that really looks good. White Diamonds is the plant that always looks good.
This tough, smaller panicled hydrangea is the best bloomer in my garden. It absolutely outshines it competition. I would recommend it to anyone.
Growing 3 to 4 feet tall and wide, this cultivar begins to bloom in July and August with pure white blossoms. It can handle some part shade, which is where I have it. It does very well in my heavy-clay, alkaline soil. https://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheet/changing-the-ph-of-your-soil/
While I have not noticed many pollinators on it, the rest of my garden makes up for it. You can use White Diamonds in massing, along borders, or for a pop of white color in a sea of green plants.
Most of the panicled hydrangeas are pest free, the exception being some leaf spots. Maintenance is done in the early spring or late winter. I like to prune it back just 4 to 6 inches.
