Description

Wildfire Black Gum

General Information

The leaves of Wildfire Black Gum emerge red in spring, and turn shiny green during the summer months. Insignificant, greenish-white flowers bloom in spring which attract bees. Dark blue, 1/2″ long fruits follow the flowers.  These fruits provide a food source for birds and other wildlife.  Brilliant, scarlet fall color.  A male Black Gum is needed for the female tree to produce fruit.  This tree is often found growing in wet lowlands, and around ponds in the wild.   Also known as Black Tupelo. Great tree to plant along a street or driveway. A great choice for near ponds, in wet low areas and commonly flooded areas.
