Description
Sunflower Pawpaw
General Information
Sunflower Pawpaw is a great fruit tree. It is of moderate to larger mature size. Pawpaws are native to this area of the country, along with a good portion of the southeastern US. Large, oval shaped leaves are up 12 inches long. They have a nice dark green color through the growing season, turning yellow in the fall. Purple-maroon flowers in the spring are followed by 3 to 6 inch long fruits. They ripen to greenish-yellow in the fall. The fruit has yellow flesh with a custardy-banana flavor. Great for fresh eating, or a variety of recipes. Needs another grafted pawpaw for proper pollination.
Additional Information
Asimina triloba ‘Sunflower’ grows to a height of 15 to 25 feet, with a similar spread. It is recommended for USDA climate zones 4 to 8. It can grow in full to partial sunlight. Sunflower does well with moderate amounts of moisture in well drained soils.
