Shrub Indigo
General Information
Shrub Indigo is a great plant that can have a variety of different uses in your landscape. This is a native plant throughout most of the country. The native areas this plant grows include: riverbanks, soggy marsh and prairielands and river bottom areas. This would make this plant perfect for a stabilization project of any sort, planting along a stream or pond, or any moist area. This plant can also handle very dry conditions as well, making it a very useful plant. This plant develops a large variance in height depending on the conditions it is in. The leaves of the shrub are pinnate, with 15 to 25 leaflets each. These leaflets are 1 to 2 inches long and broadly oblong in shape. They have a green-gray color and have a slight fuzz on them. The shrub develops 3 to 8 inch long, cylindrical flower clusters in June and July. The individual flowers are quite small and tubular in shape. They are a purplish-red color, with yellow stamens extending just above the flowers.
Additional Information
