Sargent Crabapple

General Information

The Sargent Crabapple is a beautiful, spreading crabapple. The foliage of this dwarf crabapple is dark green.  Pale pink buds open to white flowers in spring. These showy, fragrant flowers make an excellent addition to cut flower arrangements. Small, 1/4″, edible red fruits ripen in fall and attract birds. Yellow fall color. Attractive, small specimen tree. Plant in grouping for a screen, border or hedge.  Attractive along fences. The Sargent Crabapple blooms more heavily in alternate years.

Additional Information

Malus sargentii grows best in Full to Part Sun.  It will grow 6-10 feet tall with a spread of 10-12 feet. Plant in zones 4-8. Attracts birds, butterflies and hummingbirds. Tolerates urban pollution.

Care & Shipping Notes

Plant in average, well drained soil.  Prefers loamy soil, but will tolerates a variety of soil types including clay. No serious insect or disease problems.  Good resistance to scab, fireblight, cedar-apple rust and mildew. Japanese beetles, borers, spider mites, scale, aphids and caterpillars may be pests. Prune in early spring after flowering.  NOT AVAILABLE FOR SALE IN THESE US STATES AND TERRITORIES: AK, HI, GM, PR, VI.
