Description

Matador Maple

General Information

Matador Maple is a great tree that could fit well in different areas of your landscape.  It is a moderate sized tree, growing to 45 feet tall and 40 feet wide.  With its size, it would look great in a larger side lawn, or paired with another matador in a larger lawn area.  It grows in an upright fashion, in a nice symmetrical growth habit, pyramidal in its youth before taking on a spreading, rounded canopy as it matures. This maple has nice red flowers in the spring, adding to the ornamental value of the leaves.  The leaves are smaller in size, with deeply cut pointed lobes.  The leaves emerge to a moderate green color, before turning a beautiful deep red to orange-red color.  The leaves tend to turn color later than other maples, but hold that color for a good period of time.

Additional Information

Acer x freemanii ‘Bailston’ grows to a height of 40 to 45 feet, with a spread of 25 to 40 feet.  It is recommended for climate zones 4 to 7.  It grows well in full sunlight.  Matador grows best in well drained soils with moderate amounts of moisture.  It can tolerate some lesser conditions.  This is a beautiful, low maintenance tree with many great characteristics.
