Gold Standard Hosta

General Information

Gold Standard Hosta is a great plant that could work well in different areas of your landscape.  This is a larger sized hosta, potentially growing up to 3 feet tall and wide.  This hosta is a shade loving plant, but can benefit from getting a little morning sun.  It works well on the northern side of a home, under a large tree or any spot that is well protected from the midday to evening sun.  Although the foliage provides much of the attraction for the hosta, it has nice flowers as well.  These flowers grow on up to 4 foot stems above the foliage in the mid-summer, in beautiful lavender-pink colors.  The plant grows in a mounded fashion with oval leaves that have a ridged and crinkled appearance.  They emerge with a yellow-green color, transitioning to golden yellow before fading to light yellow, with a dark green color along the margins of the leaf.

Additional Information

Hosta ‘Gold Standard’ grows to a height of 24 to 36 inches, with a similar spread.  The flower stems can reach to 4 feet in height.  It is recommended for climate zones 3 to 8.  It can grow in full to partial shade.  Gold Standard grows best in well drained, rich and moist soils.  It is said to have somewhat more tolerance than the average hosta for dryer conditions.  Although this hosta is largely disease and pest free, it can take a good deal of damage from slugs, if not properly checked.
