General Information
The Compact American Cranberry Viburnum is a great shrub that could fit well in different areas of your landscape. This is a compact cultivar of the original American Cranberry Viburnum. It grows to only 6 feet tall, allowing to be placed in more places than the larger viburnum. It works well as a shrub hedge, along walkways and any other place an ornamental shrub could be placed. Another aspect of this shrub that could make it better in some spaces is that it only lightly flowers or puts on fruit. Not having the ornamental white flowers and red berries does take away clean up issues to be created by the dropping fruits. The foliage on this shrub is as good as the original. The leaves are maple-like, with three pointed lobes and serrated edges. The leaves emerge with a red tint along the edges, maturing to a solid green, before turning a beautiful deep red color in the fall. The Compact American Cranberry grows in an upright, rounded dense fashion, that combined with the foliage, gives the plant a great full appearance.
Additional Information
Viburnum trilobum ‘Bailey Compact’ grows to a height of 5 to 6 feet, with a similar spread. It is recommended for climate zones 2 to 7. It grows best in full sunlight. Compact American Cranberry grows best in well drained soils, with moderate amounts of moisture.
