Description

Blue Wood Phlox- Native

General Information

Blue Wood Phlox is a native perennial plant.  It is native to the eastern United States.  It is great for most any shaded area that needs a pop of color.  It forms as a spreading mat of foliage, with flowers held above.  Small, narrow leaves, up to 2 inches long, with a nice medium green color.  Small, up to 2 inch flowers bloom in abundance in the mid to late spring.  The five petaled flowers have a light fragrance and are violet-blue in color.  Great for attracting butterflies and hummingbirds.

Additional Information

Phlox divaricata grows to a height of 12 to 15 inches, with a similar spread.  It can eventually spread over a larger area.  It is recommended for USDA climate zones 3 to 8.  Blue Wood Phlox does well in full to partial shade.  It does well with average amounts of moisture in well drained soils.  Once established it has good drought tolerance.
