Newsletters & Resources

Kansas State University's Research & Extension Department produces a weekly newsletter with a wealth of information for gardeners about flower, trees, vegetables, garden pests, soil types, and more.

For information on specific plant problems common to Kansas, this link is also a part of K-State's Extension services.

Many other resources from K-State are available in their Horticulture Rapid Response Center.

Prize-Winning plants

For plants that are able to withstand the extremes of the midwest climate, look for those that have been named Prairie Star or Pride of Kansas. These plants are known to be hardy to our region.

Trees & Shrubs

Within the state of Kansas, there is an effort to find and preserve trees that exemplify the best of their species. To find great trees near you, check out our State Champion Trees.
